FAQs - Horizon

What is a full-suspension electric bike?

A full suspension ebike has front suspension in the fork as well as rear suspension (often referred to as a shock) whereas hardtail ebikes only have a front suspension fork. Full suspension ebikes are better suited to rough, technical, and often steep downhill terrain.
Full suspension improves comfort, traction, and control over gnarlier terrain, creating a more enjoyable riding experience.

Does full suspension make a difference?

You’ll benefit from a full suspension ebike if you:
Intend to ride really technical terrain: extra suspension improves how easily the bike can move over rougher trails and singletrack. They’re more forgiving of rider errors when it comes to choosing lines compared to a hardtail.
Want a more comfortable bike: as mentioned above, a full-suspension mountain bike gives much more comfort thanks to the rear shock. If the riding you’ll do isn’t so technical, but you know you want more comfort, you’ll be right at home on a full-sus ebikes.
Need to carry more speed: full-suspension bikes absorb the lumps and bumps better than a hardtail allowing you to carry more speed through technical sections of trail.

Why are full-suspension bikes more expensive?

Full-suspension bikes are more expensive due to the cost of extra moving parts. The addition of a second suspension component all adds up. Investment in the development of kinematics (the geometry of motion) has also transformed the design of ebikes. You no longer need to be concerned that a full-suspension mountain bike will slow you down, instead, you can benefit from a balance of comfort, traction, and pedaling performance.

Does it have any accessory mounts (kickstand, racks, fenders)?

Horizon comes equipped with a kickstand and there are mounts to install fenders and a rear (they are included with the bike).

Nice bikes but a few improvements would be nice

I purchased 2 of these bikes at the same time, arrived same day. One bike was perfect, no adjustments needed. The other one had some issues with the rear brake and front forks that needed some repairs and adjustment by some bike shops and while still not perfect it’s good enough. I wish they were both perfect.

We have 2 other high price e-bikes (Pedego) which we love but when friends visited we wanted to have guest bikes for them to ride. They have worked well for that purpose but truth be told I like riding these bikes as much or more than the expensive bikes. I really appreciate the full suspension more than any other feature of this bike. Not sure I would ever buy another bike without it. These are powerful bikes and pull hard when the electrics kick in. Plenty of power for any hill and bigger guys. They ride very nicely and are secure and stable even on gravel roads. Controls, lights and displays are all excellent. Paint jobs are very nice and these are sturdy bikes there is no flexing of the frame even with the folding mechanism.

Some improvements I’d love to see:
- bigger battery, at level 3 (approximately 15 mph) with active of peddle power added by the rider you will start having range anxiety at around 30 miles. You’ll see the battery level stay at 2 bars when stopped and sometimes dip to 1 during a big uphill push. Obviously there is still power there and you can get more miles but you’ll want to be getting close to home for a recharge. I never ran out on a ride but I also keep my ride plans to 35 miles as I don’t know exactly when it goes to zero and when you get into the 35 mile range the bike does slow a bit but still usable and fun. I would like to see an extended range battery offered.
- smoother take off at low speeds when the motor kicks in would be nice. As is when you are going slowly to turn a tight corner you want both hands on the steering or the bike feels like it could get away from you.
- the app: it’s not great and it seems like the app needs to be connected to the bike for the custom levels to be in effect of they do work. I tried to have each of the 5 levels match the range of my other e-bikes 5 levels and could never make that work. Also you need the app to unlock going 28 mph and I’ve never been able to get the bikes going that fast. Seems they are stuck at something more like 20-22 mph. Maybe it’s on me not being able to figure things out. Fortunately the default levels make for a nice ride and 20 mph is fast enough for my needs. I don’t find the app to be worth it to deal with its glitches which caused me more frustration than the benefits seemed worth. Maybe you’ll have better luck…or maybe it’s improved or will in time. I have not be in the app in maybe 9 months and when I asked for help the company said the app was in beta…
-seats could be better, we swapped out for cloud 9
-the baskets and very heavy, especially the front basket seems like it would add a unnecessary weight in a less than ideal position. Would be nice to have them made from aluminum.
